At KLINGER UK, we don’t just manufacture gaskets — we also invest in the future of engineering by creating opportunities for young talent. Our team in Saudi Arabia recently partnered with COOP, a technical college in Jizan, to give students valuable workplace experience and prepare them for their careers.
To find out more, we spoke with Matt Hayllar, Country Manager for Saudi Arabia, who has been leading the initiative.

Partnering with Jizan Technical College
Through the COOP programme, students spend 6–7 weeks gaining hands-on experience at KLINGER UK. Similar to work placements in the UK, the scheme helps graduates bridge the gap between education and working life.
“So far this year, we’ve welcomed six students to our team,” Matt explained. “It’s a fantastic way to support local talent while also strengthening our own workforce.”
How It All Began
When KLINGER UK first established operations in Saudi Arabia, the team met with the University Dean to express their commitment to employing local students. “We started with four students, and after they joined the team, we were invited to take part in the COOP training programme,” Matt said.
Since then, KLINGER UK has supported the initiative for three semesters, running morning and afternoon shifts for students. “We began with just two students in the first year. In 2025, we successfully completed the semester with six,” Matt added. “We’ve also supported the college with open workshops and talks.”

Building Skills for the Future
The benefits go far beyond technical training. “Around half of the programme is about practical skills, while the other half is about interpersonal development,” Matt explained.
Many students improve their English and gain confidence by working in a multicultural environment. “For most, this is their first step into working life after school, so it’s a big transition. The programme really helps them adapt,” he said.
Success Stories
Several students have progressed from the programme into full-time roles at KLINGER UK. “We employed one student in 2023, two in 2024, and we’re making offers to two more for 2025,” Matt shared.
One standout is Meshal Zahari, who joined as a trainee and is now a supervisor. “Meshal has shown great potential,” Matt said. “Many of our students come from modest backgrounds, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see them succeed and make their families proud.”
Positive Feedback
Feedback from both students and lecturers has been extremely encouraging. “All of the students have enjoyed their time with us,” Matt explained. “They leave with real mechanical skills, experience of working under western management, and, most importantly, a strong focus on safety.”
Unlike traditional work placements, the COOP programme with KLINGER UK offers hands-on training that equips students with practical skills they can take straight into their careers.

Looking Ahead
The programme will continue in 2026 and beyond, with KLINGER UK committed to supporting the next generation of engineers. Some students stay with the company, while others go on to pursue opportunities elsewhere.
“We’ve had two students move on to Aramco, which is considered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity here,” Matt said. “We’re proud to have given them a strong foundation for their careers.”
