Do gaskets have a shelf life?

The short answer is yes. Gaskets do have a shelf life; however, the specific lifespan depends on the type of gasket and storage conditions. Metallic and semi-metallic gaskets can last up to 10 years. For our KLINGER gasket materials, the lifespan varies depending on the type. In accordance with ISO 2230, the KLINGERSIL, KLINGER top-sil, KLINGER top-graph, KLINGER Quantum, and KLINGER CompenSil ranges can all last up to 7 years.

However, the KLINGERSIL range has different shelf lives: the C-6307 and C-6327 can last up to 5 years, while the KLINGERSIL C-8200 is the most durable, with a shelf life of up to 10 years.

To maximize the shelf life of your KLINGER sheeting materials, we recommend adopting a ‘first in, first out’ approach. Store the materials at a temperature below 25ºC with relative humidity under 65%. The storage area should be free of direct sunlight, and metallic materials should not be in contact with the stored sheeting materials.

What are the different types of KLINGER gasket sheets?

Our KLINGER gasket sheeting range is split into 4 different family types.

KLINGER Graphite Laminate (including, SLS, PSM, PDM, TSM, and XSM)
KLINGER Milam PSS
KLINGER TopChem PTFE (including 2000, 2000soft, 2003, 2005, and 2006)
KLINGERSIL range (including, C-4240, C-4300, C-4324, C-4400, C-4408, C-4409, C-4430, and C-4430 plus).

What is the difference between graphite and PTFE gaskets?

Graphite is a natural form of carbon, while PTFE, or Polytetrafluoroethylene is a synthetic material. In relation to gaskets, Graphite is suitable for high-temperature environments, whereas PTFE is better known for its chemical resistance and low friction.

What is the difference between a Kammprofile Gasket and a Spiral Wound Gasket?

The KLINGER Kammprofile and Spiral Wound Gaskets are both great options for sealing high-performance applications. However, they also both differ in many ways. The KLINGER Kammprofile Gasket is a rigid product with a metal core and serrated profile. It is ideal for high-pressure and high-temperature conditions and is more reusable than a Spiral Wound Gasket.

What is the longest lasting gasket material?

By maintaining the storage area in accordance with ISO 2230 standards, the longest lasting gasket material is the KLINGERSIL C-8200.
